Priorities for SD43

Five commitments in plain language.

Trustees make choices that affect classrooms, staff and families. Emily will explain her decisions, ask hard questions and answer for the results.

01

Open communication

Families should hear about decisions while their input can still shape the outcome.

Catchment changes, program moves and portable placements should come with plain-language notice and genuine consultation with affected families well before decisions are finalized.

02

Anticipate growth

Plan classroom space to match the homes being built, before schools are already full.

Port Moody is growing quickly. Emily will press for early enrolment planning, clear capital priorities and persistent advocacy with the province so classroom space does not arrive years after families do.

03

Support front line staff

Put teachers, education assistants, counsellors and youth workers where student needs are greatest.

Raw enrolment does not tell the whole story. Emily supports allocating frontline staff according to assessed student need and the workload facing each school community.

04

Protect arts and humanities

Creativity, judgment and human expression matter even more as AI changes how students learn and work.

Arts and humanities are often among the first programs threatened when budgets tighten. Emily will defend their place in a complete education that prepares students to think critically, communicate clearly and create work that is genuinely their own.

05

Make room for every student

Every child should feel welcomed, included, respected and safe at school.

Emily supports age-appropriate SOGI-inclusive resources, clear anti-bullying and anti-discrimination policies, and staff who are supported in creating welcoming classrooms where every student can be themselves and thrive.
